I met James Ilgenfritz over a decade ago in an improvisatory context. Already an established composer and curator in New York, I was surprised to find James an affable, humble bassist who was endlessly curious in soundmaking. I joined Ghost Ensemble, of which he remains a core member, in 2012 after MSM, delving into the text works of Pauline Oliveros and the practice of Deep Listening. Pauline passed away a few years ago, and I was honored to play one of her early (notated) works for flute, bass, and percussion (Chris Nappi) at Park Avenue Armory, which we recorded at Seizure's Palace (Brooklyn) shortly after.
James started Infrequent Seams as a home for experimental music. It is now based on Bandcamp, but this fall he is expanding to limited edition tapes of some albums, and merch to boot. Look out for some really cool things as the label grows and evolves over the next 6 months or so.
