Sometimes I dream in real estate; my old housemate Clio (viola, based in San Francisco) and I talked about having a restaurant. She'd be front of house, plan the menus, I'd run the kitchen. We'd collaborate on recipes in our communal kitchen, and love eachother as business partners forever. It's basically impossible to start such a venture without investors; my wise SCORE mentor, an investor himself, told me as much as I was consulting him on the beginnings of my client base this fall.
I'm going to rent a 2 bedroom in May/June of 2021, after returning from Iceland and settling back into Brooklyn life. Crown Heights has been good to me for these 6 years - from the Joy Factory (Keren and Lianna, the OGs) to blissful living with my EMT/bassist roommate Mike (who I met at SUNY-Purchase in 2007) - and I'm friends with everyone in the building. I patronize BIPOC businesses every day (the local delis, Bagel Pub, Island CZ & Drink, my favorite local watering holes for rum cocktails), chat with the West Indies guys on the block (Belize, Martinique, Jamaica, and more), and have roof parties in my building once a month. My friend Ray does residential; maybe he can help me buy in the fall. Stay tuned for more musings on city living!
